Jonathan Wood on panel discussion at Fast Markets Europe Biofuels and Feedstocks conference in Amsterdam

Jonathan Wood, Chief Commercial Officer, represented Nova Pangaea Technologies at the Fast Markets Europe Biofuels and Feedstocks conference in Amsterdam.
He was on a panel with Lars Boerger from the Nova Institute, Mark Stolze from Boeing, and João Pedro Rodrigues Morciani of Fast Markets. The panel discussion was focused on the scaling up of SAF production and adoption.
Jonathan notes, “We discussed the current availability of a HEFA capacity to meet the short term mandate demand. In my view, the key challenge lies in delivering the ramp up beyond 2030.
“We know there are new production technologies which can access material and sustainable feedstock pools – and we need them to scale them up to reduce net emissions in aviation and also across other sectors such as in chemicals and polymers. But attracting the capital for these new pathways is a challenge right now. How can we guarantee attractive returns and de-risk the projects from a technical, delivery execution and commercial perspective? This is where we need collaboration with strategic partners in the value chain looking at the long term goal, resilient and agile business leadership, and pragmatic policy support on both the demand and supply side to get from the R&D/pilot phase to deliver the First Of A Kind (FOAK) plants.
“We also need measures to help bridge the price gap by rewarding lower carbon intensity SAF vs fossil jet fuel, and generating value from the multiple revenue streams associated with the production of renewable fuels. Together, we can get there through collaboration and collective efforts.”
