NPT achieves 2100 days without a Lost Time Incident and spotlights HSE

Jon Holliday is the Health, Safety and Environment Manager (HSE) at Nova Pangaea Technologies. He discusses his role and the importance of HSE in companies.
“I joined the NPT organisation in May 2024 and at a time when the business was preparing to transition from an experimental facility to a full scale operational asset.
“The role of HSE manager requires involvement in all aspects of the business, including operations, design, strategic planning, finance and close working with the HR function relating to organisational competence.
“The main focus areas during my first year have been to ensure NPT compliance with regulatory requirements and development of the associated processes to support current and future activities. This requires working closely with the NPT management team who are accountable for the performance of the business and provide the resources to ensure the requirements for health, safety and environment are fulfilled.
“I am deeply involved in operational activities, including operating and maintenance of the facility and building infrastructure, and ensuring effective risk management. We work closely with contractor organisations who undertake work on behalf of NPT. The approval of contractor organisations and the planning of their work are essential to ensure work is completed on time and without any incidents.
“NPT has an excellent safety record and has recently achieved over 2100 days without a lost time incident or recordable injury. Most importantly, we have a healthy culture of open discussion and proactive reporting on HSE matters. We have monthly HSE meetings where all NPT personnel attend, and these are open sessions generating a lot of constructive talk as well as covering topics and practices of well-being.
“As we prepare to upscale our design and move to become an operational production facility, we are further developing our HSE processes to ensure our excellent performance is maintained as the size of the NPT team grows and our operational risk increases, during the design, construction and subsequent operation of a full scale plant.”
